Once upon a time we searched for a friend for our Black Lab Shulky. We eventually ended up checking
the Santa Clara County Humane Society. We pulled a few dogs out of their
kennel to meet Shulky to see if they liked her. The first dog brought out
growled at Shulky and the second dog ignored her.  |

Lyja really needed a brushing badly, she had clumps of hair sticking up like fingers. She had so much loose hair that it was obvious she hadn’t been touched affectionately or groomed for months So, before we left the the Humane Society we picked up a leash, a collar, and a brush.. I thought she should’ve been cleaned up before we drove her home. There was a breeze that day that blew the loose hair away as I brushed her. At first I didn’t notice the mess we were making but when I finally managed to look up there were big tufts of hair floating through the parking lot like tumbleweeds in the desert. I thought someone might get angry at me for the mess.  |

It was
easy to come up with a name for Lyja. We named our Black Lab after
the Marvel Comic super heroen Shulky (short for She Hulk.) I am a
big fan of the Fantastic Four and the She Hulk was a member of the four
while The Thing was on battle planet. Lyja was another female character from the Fantastic Four. She was a Shape shifting Skrull who posed as a human to marry Johnny the Human Torch. The character Lyja's initial mission was to infiltrate the Fantastic Four, but she fell in love with Johnny so she is now friends with the team.  |
